CREW

  Matelot

Matelot is crewed full time by a skipper, chef and Mate. They have full responsibility for the yacht whether undergoing refit work in the yard, deliveries across the Atlantic or whilst guests are onboard. Both the skipper and chef have worked for the owner for many years and have been with the yacht since she was purchased by the current owner. The mate has been involved with the owner's previous yacht and worked onboard since the current Matelot was purchased. Having been involved in all pre purchase details and the current refit, they are perfectly placed to ensure it meets the high standards to be expected on charter.

All the crew onboard Matelot are trained through the STCW Basic Safety Course covering fire fighting, sea survival and first aid.
The crew successfully chartered the Oyster 66 Matelot for over two years and look forward to welcoming you onboard the new Matelot - a Southern Wind 80!

Captain: Angus Fuller, born UK 1977, began sailing at the age of two weeks old. Since then he has sailed over 130,000nm including 16 transatlantics and a race circumnavigating the world upwind passing both Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope to starboard.

He holds RYA/DoT Commercial Yachtmaster (Ocean) certificate.

Matelot is the latest in a variety of yachts he has run having previously skippered several Oysters (including an Oyster 66 for Matelot's owner) and Swans. Having cruised the Caribbean extensively, the E Coast of the States, the Mediterranean between the Balearics and Croatia, the Galapagos and Arctic Norway, Angus can ensure that you sample the very best of local life wherever you choose to charter.

When not onboard Matelot, Angus enjoys sailing on the Norfolk Broads, playing the piano and hill walking.

Chef: Jessie Cuthbert, born UK 1978, has also sailed all her life. She was a trialist in the 470s for Sydney Olympics, won the UK Women's Match Racing Nationals, twice Youth World Champion and has been voted the BT/YJA Yachtsman of the Year in 1995.

Jessie trained at the Rosie Davie's School of Cookery before joining Angus some years ago on yachts. She also completed 2 very busy years with Angus on the 66 and has completed 6 transatlantic crossings.

She describes her cooking as international whilst using all the best local ingredients available but at the same time cooked to the guests' preferences.

Whilst ensuring that your cabin and meals are presented to the highest standard, Jessie is also on hand to help guests learn how to get the best out of the yacht's sailing performance.

As well as enjoying cooking, Jessie loves traveling, wakeboarding and "getting stuck into a good book".

Mate: Giles Riley, born UK 1976, has lived near the sea since he was born. A qualified PADI Dive Master Giles looks forward to taking guests snorkeling or diving (contact the yacht first to find out more about this).  Giles has worked for the owner and with Jessie and Angus since early 2006. His sense of humour and experiences from traveling Asia will keep guests entertained for hours!

A qualified boat builder in carbon yachts, he has been involved in the building of several famous yachts including the TP52 Patches winners of the world champions. When not working onboard Matelot, Giles likes to dive and bike ride.
