CREW

  Campai
We are delighted to introduce you to Matthew Hayes and Jill Lumenta, the resident crew, along with a full time stewardess, who will be serving you aboard campai.  Matthew, your skipper and Jill, your chef, are totally committed to ensuring that your vacation on campai is wonderful in every way.    Both Matthew and Jill are outstanding sailors with years of charter experience and both are dedicated hosts whose attention to detail will guarantee a vacation of lavish, yet unobtrusive, service.

Matthew grew up by the sea in Plymouth, England and has sailed all his life.  His passion for all things nautical includes a love of fishing, snorkeling and diving. Matthew has also studied marine biology and oceanography at the university level and received a Masters degree in Marine Environmental Protection.   In 1995, while working as a marine research scientist, Matthew made the decision to pursue sailing professionally and trained to become a certified commercially endorsed Yachtmaster.   It is a decision that he has never once regretted.  Now, ten years later, Matthew has logged over 65,000 sea miles, chartering extensively in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and the United States, completing several Atlantic crossings and cruising passages through the Panama Canal to the South Pacific Islands and New Zealand.

Chef: Jill Lumenta

During his auspicious trip to New Zealand, Matthew met up with Jill, a beautiful, talented and good-humored young woman who wholeheartedly shares Matthew’s enthusiasm for the sea.  Jill began sailing in 2001 and is a qualified skipper in her own right, supplementing her experiences with sea survival and first aid courses.  While Jill is a highly competent sailor, it is in cooking that Jill’s true talent and proficiency shine. As a charter chef in the Mediterranean and as souse-chef in a well-established yacht club in England, Jill perfected an extensive repertoire of dishes that will satisfy any palate.    Her Dutch, Indonesian and South American ancestry make her a true citizen of the world and she brings this unique background to her cooking.   Whether cooking traditional Indonesian meals or the most nouvelle fusion cuisine, Jill is uncompromising in her dedication to quality and presentation -- it is these elements that will delight the most discerning charter guest.

Matthew and Jill have worked together on both charter and racing yachts since they met, cruising in Greece and Turkey and racing in the ARC transatlantic, the Swan Worlds in Sardinia and the Antigua Sailing Week and Heineken Regatta in the Caribbean.   They are experienced sailors, gracious hosts and enjoyable companions – the perfect crew to ensure a successful charter aboard campai.
